Hello everyone - does anyone know what the top of this bottle is supposed to look like? Was it just a cork or was there a glass stopper? It's a little over 12" tall and 5 1/8" across the base. I understand this company made a number of collectible bottles but I couldn't find an example of this one. There was a book published on these Luxado bottles but I haven't been able to find a copy. There are lots of labels but most of the color has washed out of the labels so they're hard to read. And who idea was mint wine anyway - sounds awful! Thanks for any leads!

You sure it wasn't named for the color instead of the contents? You're right - wine made from mint sounds like a horrible idea. :vomit:

    Hi,
Sounds better than dandelion wine.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: I make mint vinegars and jellies (not that obnoxsious green stuff in a jar) which is apple jelly with mint favoring.:yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck:

Is Creme d' Menthe that bad? I rather fancied it.
Maybe not mint wine but an apertif.

Oh, my grandmother used to make mint jelly from crab apples from the house across the street and mint growing by her back door. It was wonderful with lamb chops!

I have a bottle of Crème de Menthe in my cupboard. I don't like mint much, but I love this drizzled over vanilla ice cream.

That thing looks more like a factice than a wine bottle. Mint wine?? Bletch!

Really? You don't like Crème de Menthe on ice cream? Restaurants used to serve parfaits, but they don't any more. :(

The only thing I like about creme de menthe is the color! I don't care for mint in any presentation. Which is why my Kentucky Derby drink is in a sterling julep cup, but is cracked ice and Pepsi. Don't care for Bourbon either.

    Hi,
When my son and my little sister (six weeks apart) were little they decided they did not want to drink milk. I added a couple drops of green food coloring and called it grasshopper juice they drank it for a couple of years.:shifty:

LOL! My mother used to dye EVERYTHING green for St. Patrick's day. Green milk, green mashed potatoes, green cake...never bothered me, but I remember one of my friends turning green when I told him about it!

I might have a bottle of Creme de Menthe around here somewhere for guests. I wonder if it goes bad? I used to hang out in a bar with a very Irish proprietor who served green beer on St. Patrick's Day but fortunately I preferred gin. St. Patrick's seemed to be a bigger deal on the East Coast than in the Midwest except for Chicago.

I agree fidbald - a glass stopper is much more likely. Most likely they got separated over the years.:arghh:

Hi folks! Just a follow-up. I sold this item on Ebay and the buyer told me this was meant to be used as a candle holder after the wine was drunk. It is missing a collar that was used to catch drips. It also came in pink. A link to a complete example with info regarding manufacturer is below.

I own a copy of "Luxardo Bottles - Identification and Price Guide". Page 83 shows an example of your piece. It is described as "Alabaster Candlestick". It was issued in 1961 and imported again in 1968. Most examples were produced in shades of rose. The green tinted candlesticks, such as yours, were rare. The guide did not indicate a value. All Luxardo glass containers were made in Murano

Thank you, Walter, I was wondering about the years of production. I didn't get much for it. It sold for around $33 but I only had a $2 investment. It was filthy inside and out and took me a couple of rounds with Krud Kutter to get it clean. My customer offered me $75 to close the auction early but I told him that's against my policy and hoped he could get it at auction for less. Sure enough that's what happened. He's thrilled because now he has a pair in green and I'm glad because it found a home where it'll be appreciated. Happiness all around. Thanks again, Walter!
