Anyone want to have a o at identifying this? Obviously someone has made a mess of turning it onto a picture frame, and the badge comes off an RAF cap, but what did it come from originally? It is wood, heavy, has the profile of a wing, has a metal riveted-on leading edge. My late father picked it up in a junk shop many years ago.

Looks like the tip of a wooden propeller blade.

I think it's fantastic! It was probably very sentimental and significant to the person who made it.

I'm just sorry I didn't beat your dad to it! There's a long tradition of using bits of busted stuff in theater to make souvenirs. The original owner may have been crew, or maybe just ground crew with a sideline.

Anyone think this could be classified as trench art?

I'd list it that way if I were selling it.

If it is the tip from a propeller then isn't it huge? I agree that is what it looks like, of course it does, but it is 30cm across along the flat edge and 37cm top-to-bottom... I compared it to everything in the "flight" section in the Science Museum in London and it did not look much like anything in there. I am Googling it now, I'll let you know if I find anything. Thank you all for your help.

Hi Jon and WELCOME!! Oh, you should LOVE it here!!! We also have a lot of fun while exchanging and dissecting information!!!! When posting pictures, 1MB is the size limit, 10 pics per post, and when you upload the files, the very top image lets you click to "post every image FULL SIZE"....MUST DO!!!!! You also will find, most of the 'experts' here would like close ups, several angles, dimensions, and any other information you can provide about the object in question.....that should get you off to a great start!!! Am I seeing correctly?? Is that a rectangular 'hole' in it?? Still a very neat piece!!! I JUST answered my own question from your post....someone made it into a picture frame of sorts.............
