Does anyone know anyone know saws. I not sure how you figure out who made them unless you can just tell by the blade shape and handles, but I noticed it makes a huge difference in price if identified. I cannot find any markings on mine. Any help appreciated.

    TIA, Bryan

I would say it is a two man felling saw or crosscut saw used in forestry.

Thanks Dave but I am wondering how you figure out the maker definitely makes a huge difference in price. I only paid $30 and the price range for resale seems to be $250 to $70 depending on by who. It looks like I have the less desirable type of handles (western or loop) but that even may be due to the saw they are on.

Is the Simonds you found marked? I had one I couldn't identify and then I saw something that looked identical on ebay that was marked. Once I saw where the mark was, I took mine outside and used a magnifying glass and sure enough, I found the mark. It was worn thin and covered with some light rust. I never would have found it without seeing the other picture.

Yeah they show a close up of the marks but not really where it is. I am guessing towards the middle. I will look again

I can't help you on maker. The tooth pattern of this 2 man bucking crosscut saw appears to be a "perforated-lance tooth pattern."

Thanks for telling me where to look for the Simmonds logo, Bryan. I'll check for a logo. Mine has simple wooden handles.

For those who may not know, this saw is also known as a "Passe par- tout (pahs pah too)" in Cajun. ::hearts::

Bryan, regarding your last photograph, I want to thank you for using a legible measuring tape to show/emphasize the spacing and arrangement of the saw's teeth. ;)

Maker's marks are typically etched on the blades of these saws and are often faint or unreadable.

What adds value to your saw is the length of the teeth. Evidently some people are buying these to use. Your teeth look little, if ever, sharpened to me. It's a nice saw.

It is not the name that sells so much as the condition, style and usability. A well readable name often would be an indicator of little wear.
What seems to be selling the highest on feebay is shine. Many of the highest sold were recently sanded and buffed, with poor pictures that don't show the pitting that remains.
Your has little wear but the etching on the blade would make it draggy in the kerf.
