    Novice here looking for help.

Does anyone know if there is a name or info on this cabinet? A collector said he thought there may be some Japanese influence to it but I wasn't certain if he knew for sure.

Looks like a sideboard, for use in the dining room, IMHO. I don't see any Japanese influence there. Was he referring to the door panels? Can't see the figures well enough to say.

I have taken the liberty of editing your pic in order to see it better. I have corrected the perspective, cropped it, brightened and adjusted the contrast as well as increasing the clarity and back-lighting. Possibly others may help you with it. At the moment I agree with Bake in not seeing any Japanese influence in its construction or the panel pics.

Here's a close up of the panel...and thank you for your input. I appreciate it!

Also, it's about 5 ft. tall. Are sideboards usually that high?

5 FEET tall? That really surprises me, but I'll take your word for it.

Then, no it would be too high for a sideboard.

It is an interesting looking cabinet. Are you certain that the "5 feet" mentioned is the height? I'm wondering if it is the width/length.

Again, it is an "interesting" cabinet, what with the carved panels showing people dancing in wooden shoes (clogs), the all-but-open wire(?) covering in front of the center shelves, and those four shallow drawers across the bottom edge which appear to be so close to the floor that almost anyone would be either bending over to open/close the drawer or would be kneeling or squatting on the floor to open a drawer and retrieve an item or place an item and to close the drawer.

You should look carefully at the legs. I'm seeing a 'married' piece.

    I'm seeing a 1970s piece of furniture.
Not a sideboard, but a dining room cabinet for glassware/barware.

    Adding:
Have you pulled it away from the wall, any marks on the back?

    Hi,
I agree with Bev. It looks like the top of a china cabinet taken off the base and replaced with a "stand".

Oh. I thought it was sitting on a coffee table...

And the 'influence' would be Dutch or German.

For putting one's stuff in. Like the punch bowl, and the party-sized coffee maker, and one's collection of Julep cups.

I agree that it appears to be the top off something, those low drawers are absurd where they are but quite typical in the middle of a piece.

I pulled it away from the wall and couldn't find any markings at all hinting to a manufacturer and yes, as absurd as it sounds, it's 5 FEET tall.

It is in two pieces so it never occurred to me that maybe someone placed the cabinet on top of a table/stand and they didn't originate together.

The drawers are rather low but the wood matches perfectly on both pieces so who knows?! Thanks for all of your input!!

Nothing inside a drawer or door or under the drawers?

    No markings at all.

Odd but that alone may point to it not being much of anything.
Are the drawers nailed together or dovetailed?
Door hinges carefully fit and not cheaply made?

Again, if you click on FULL IMAGE after you upload, all your pictures will appear in the post so we don't have to click on links. If you want answers, it would be courteous.

Although the lighting isn't great and the colors are off, I'm looking at the inside of those drawers and thinking brand new.

Well, my mother had this for twenty years and before that it was sitting in an antique store for quite some time, so I'm not sure how "brand new" it is.

Thanks for the tip about the photos. I'll try to be as courteous us as I can in your neck of the woods here sir...

The drawers are not dovetailed by the way.
