I found this at a local antique shop - I don't know if it's a garden stool or a plant stand, but I can't find another one anywhere!
I googled foo dog shaped garden stool & foo dog shaped plant stand, but all I got were ones with foo dogs painted on them.
Anyone seen something like this before? Am I describing it wrong?

    Measures 18" L x 15" T x 8" W - it's a little smaller than a regular garden stool (see last photo).

Also - it is made of terracotta (I believe) instead of the usual porcelain.

    Thanks!

    Thank you!

I love it! I know you sold it already, but just in case you find another one:
It is not a Foo dog but a Pixiu, mythologically related to dragons. In this case the male variety, called a Tiānlù.
A Tiānlù protects riches. His tail is raised so you can see he has no 'hole' through which wealth can flow away.:)

Pixius are my favourite Chinese mythical animals, and I have several around the house. I didn't know they made them as garden stools, I'll have to be on the lookout for one of those.

    Hi,
Thanks Any Jewelry for your explanation on the Tianlu. I remember years ago I bought a small pottery piece with a dog with his tail upright. The woman who sold it to me spoke very little English just said "good for luck".
I miss my days living near Chinatown in Manhattan.
