Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

DEATH Date LOOKS like it COULD say 1908.....but not totally sure about that.....
Inverted..........EDIT !!!!That Death Date could most likely be 1888!!

He would have lived to a ripe old age if this was painted in 1811.

Nathan, I don't know why you didn't post full images of your portrait, both front and back, including the frame but would/could you do so now? And how do you know the painting "will be English?"

I found a Samuel Benjamin Merriman on ancestry, and I'm pretty sure it's the same person. It says he was born on the 17th December, 1812 (the record most likely got the year wrong), and there's a probate record that states he died in April, 1888, which matches up with what Aquitaine was saying. Here's a screenshot of it, let me know if you want to know more about him, there's quite a lot of records :)

Think we can rule out its having been painted in 1811.

Samuel Benjamin Merriman! I found him on Ancestry too eventually. Born 17 Dec 1811 and Died April 1882. I'm assuming the ancestry was a year off but maybe this label is. Some other pages showed he was a solicitor too.

As for not posting the full images, the limits on the sizes here weren't letting me show full images. They didnt give any hints other than it looking late Victorian. No other reason.

He came from a fairly wealthy family. His father's will gives thousands of pound each to several children, also estates (plural, but wording implies buildings in town, like a law office).

Lucky kids haha. I didn't end up buying the painting but I hope whoever did learjs about him and tracks down his family. I'd love to do that one day with a piece.
