Anybody know about old fishing reels?

    I found this lying on a sandbar in a local creek. Just curious how old it is?
    Has a vey heavy cast body and says Great Lakes followed by 3 stars and the numeral 1.
    Below that it says Lexington Michigan USA.

    I believe push-button reels started in the mid 50s and reached the height of popularity in the 70s. My wild guess is late 60s.

    Looks like something I was using when I was a kid (60's), except mine was a "Zebco" :)

    Agree totally on those time frames. Not a particularly good reel.

    I sent the photos and what info I had to an antique fishing reel collector. This is what they had to say:

    “The Great Lakes Model 1 spincast reel was manufactured in the 1950’s for stores like Montgomery Wards, Sears & Roebuck, and J.C. Penny. You don't often see them branded with just Great Lakes. That is unique. Paul”
