Any thoughts on this Hand tooled Leather wrapped box.

Found this little 4" box today. i was thinking it might be a Rosary box because of the five point star shape. Hoping to find approx age and where it came from.

I wrote something based on a misapprehension of the scene on the lid. You cannot completely delete a message once it has been posted, you have to have something, hence .. Means ignore this.

 

They are either singing or praying?

 

I'd guess medieval monks chanting, being directed by the guy on the right. Odd choice of subject matter. The box looks like it might be for cuff links.

 

Sort of looks to me like they might be singing in a 'choir'?? OR what MOS said.......

You may well be right. Not dissimilar in composition to the Medieval choir in the Ghent Alterpiece.

I would also think a rosary box. Very nice.

 

Rosary box works with the imagery.

 

I have a lot of Rosaries but I don't think I have any this old.

Rosaries are a common thing people forget and leave hanging from their mirrors.
