I found this today at a thrift store - my first thought was Eskimo? (until I looked at it from a different angle (2nd photo) then it looked like one of the teenage mutant ninja turtles with sun/eye glasses! (stop laughing - look at it))
Any idea who carved this or what area it is from?
Any idea what the stone is? (there looks like small bits of glass here & there in the stone when it's turned against the light)
Any way to tell if it's old?
    It is 13" high
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS - I tried Magic Eraser and nail polish remover but neither did a thing to remove the sharpie price on the bottom (it was the price; I tried to change it so you couldn't tell since I couldn't remove it)

It isn't NW Coast Native American or Canadian First Nations, or any kind of Eskimo/Aleut/Inupiaq that I'm familiar with; but beyond that, I have no ideas as to where it might have come from, or type of stone.

    Possible it could be Hawaiian?

It bears some resemblance to monumental stone statues from French Polynesia, on Raivavae for instance. But only some resemblance, the ones there are generally more refined and defined, with more detail on the hands and face for instance.

I think this will be very difficult to pinpoint because of the poor refinement and features (but then again maybe that’s a clue in itself) It does look really old (well to me) The last weird stone carving I saw was from Burkina Faso (my point being there’s allot out there :)) But hopefully you figure it out!!

I put cash on this being a "tourist artifact"
