Any Information on Big (101 x 67), Colorful, Old Carpet

I found this at a thrift store today - it was rolled up but the colors were gorgeous & for $29 I decided to buy it.
Unrolling it, it looks a bit worn - or flattened from being rolled up a long time?
And possibly hand made?
Where is this from?
How old is it?
Is it hand made?
What is it called (I'd almost say a shag?)
ANY information would be greatly appreciated
PS - What is the little padlock for(last photos)?

 

Hard to tell from photographs but could possibly be chenille. And design might loosely be called "ikat." Here's something similar from overstock.com. Yours likely from same or somewhere similar like Wayfair.

From the back it looks like a rag rug (woven with strips of cloth rather than yarn), and it might be called a shag/shaggy rag rug. The blue thing is a security tag, which might indicate it is rather recent.

I think that some of these tags can be deactivated, and then the clerks just don't bother to remove them.

 

Does not look "old."

 

It would look nice in the right room -- would brighten up a semi-neutral room.
