Hi all! I really liked this small sculpture so I picked it up in a thrift store (unsigned). Measures 6.75"H x 4"W. It is made from a variety of metal objects including barber scissors made by Carl Monkhouse and some older looking hair pins. I would appreciate any info you may have on it as I can't find anything similar. I have researched Carl Monkhouse and figure that the barber tools are on the older side. My question is, do you think this whole sculpture as some age to it or is it a more modern piece reusing older tools? The scissor leg swings forward and the man kisses the lady! His "hat" (bolt?) reminds me of a military helmet. Input welcome :)

    .

    Nut.

Quite clever. I like it & novelty items are not my favorite things most days.

On the hairdressing theme, the nut/bolt reminds me of those old hair dryers

I actually did research Carl Monkhouse, he made the barber supplies. From Germany originally and moved to NY. He imported some of his metal from England to use in scissors etc. He would not have made the sculpture, likely someone else. Just curious as to whether it is modern with old supplies or old with old supplies

That star and word were on the original scissors.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This seems to be a modern sculpture made of old items. At first I was thinking Steampunk influences, but maybe not mechanical enough. And is it painted black overall? Maybe spray painted?

These are all just thoughts and opinions. I know nothing substantial about it.

Thanks everyone for your input! It's definitely a bit of an oddball one.
