    I found this at a local thrift store - is it a print? A lithograph? A serigraph? How do you tell the difference?
    Can anyone tell me the name of this one?
    Thank you for any help with this!

    Based on the signature and the way the figures are done, I would say lithograph. I am not 100% sure it is an original print. Some of the lines and areas of color look a little weak. It could be a reproduction of the original. An image search might shed some light on the history of the original and whether copies were made.

    Trying to figure out image search on my phone but it's a cheap Wal-Mart friends & family phone & plan (because I crack the screens a lot) so may not have it.
    I will try on computer when I get home thank you!

    Love Dali's work. I would have a closer look at the signature. Very rigid for the artist and I can not find another sig where he separated the "Da" from the "li". With so many examples out there, I would expect to see another. Maybe someone can find an example out there. Also the placement does not show up on any other "Rising to the Seventh Level: Lustful" print. althought it resembles this placement, but not his signature,

    Still a beautiful work.

    Hello.

    Usually a lithograph or a serigraph has a number in left bottom corner and a signature in right bottom corner.
    To understand if it's a print or a lithograph , you should check the work with a lens quite good : if there is a grid of regular points , it's a print (if there is an hand signature , it could be a offset lithograph) , otherwise it could be a lithograph or also a graphic work. It depends as the colors appear on the paper.

    I would pull it of of the frame and look at it with a good magnifying glass. I would also hold it up to the light and look for a watermark. The originals were on BFK RIVES and I saw mention of a publishers mark. There just seems to be some inconsistencies with your print that give me some pause.

    I would recommend doing a search on eBay, search on “Purgatory 25”. You should find several versions of prints claiming to be originals.

    I know Dali is one of the most copied works.

    Here it is out of frame!
    1) It was in something like a large folder/prentation folder
    2) The end looked like rag paper (not smoothly cut) and is thicker than normal paper
    3) I can feel a ... indention (?) around it where something was pressed hard enough to leave a indent in the paper
    4) If you look at the lower right corner (last photo) it looks like something written in script? maybe starts with a C ? (it looks like it's written at a angle)
    5) the image measures 10" x 7.25" - google said the image measures 10" x 7" !!?
    PS - I apologize for the yellowish color - it's the ceiling light in my kitchen!

    I've checked ; there are 2 different type of works for each scene :
    a) color wood engravings in 2000 samples (heliogravure + woodcut) ;
    b) lithograph hand signed in 100 samples.
    The dimensions of both type of works are 33 x 26,2 cm ( I don't know in inch).
    I don't write about b) case because unfortunately it isn't
    your print.
    For the case a) (check and good luck):
    1) the sheet size must be as said before ;
    2) the paper must be BFK Rives Vellum ;
    3) the signature is printed as lithograph ;
    4) the scene is in part dot matrix and in part lithograph ;
    it means that not all the scene must be so , only partially(you have to use a magnifier at least 20x) :

    Is vellum a thicker paper? If it isn't original what should I call it - Dali Reaching Seventh Level print?
    Thank you for the information!

    Did you try putting a light behind the print to check for the watermark?
