Any info on antique (civil war?) surveyor's lever & tripod?

    I found this today at a thrift store. Doing a google image search showed one from a museum that said civil war?
    Can anyone tell me who made this? (There is a name on the tripod but I can't read it). How old is it? Where it's from?
    Anything would be greatly appreciated.

    it is K&E

    No transits participated in any fighting during the war

    Keuffel and Esser formed after the war

    I'd guess this one to be around 1900

    I can't be the first to note it's not a lever...but a level.

    Certainly a K&E tripod, but I've no clue about age or value.

    Looks to have been rode hard an' put away wet.
