Any idea what this small wooden head is?

    My son found this while metal detecting in the front yard. The house is 116 years old.
    I can tell if it's newer or old.
    It looks and feels to be made of wood and possibly painted at one time.

    It has large teeth, a tongue sticking out, and a pig nose?

    Any ideas on what it is or its age?

    I seem to remember in fairly recent years small head-shaped balls, made of a rubber-like plastic, which might look like this after only a few years in the ground.
    Grotesque animals, ninja turtles, battle hogs, something like that.
    Doesn't look like this one would bounce any more.....

    This looks like one of those pods that has scent to them.
    You used to find them in the old type of new age stores, and souvenir stores.
    I want to say they had a rose scent, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
    Flat beige box with about a dozen of these pods.
    Anyone know what I'm talking about?

    Looks like it was carved from one of those.
