    Hello Folks,

2016 is nearly in the record books. Please post your favorite purchase of 2016 and tell us something about it.

Here is mine; a rare 1904 Theodore Roosevelt campaign pin. I've wanted one of these for quite some time and have been outbid twice previously by other enthusiastic collectors. When one showed up at a local auction house early this year I was finally able to outbid the competition and add this pin to my collection for a reasonable (but still fairly high) price.

I think my favorite for this year is this majestic Clear Ribbon cake stand by Adams and Company c1881. These were also offered with a dried or paper floral arrangement inserted in the hollow stem; the paper on the insert noted the salver size and patent dates of Nov 11, 1881 and July 25, 1882.

    OMN: Clear Ribbon
    AKA: Scalloped Foot
    MFG: Adams and Company
    YOP: 1881
    Size: 11-5/8" OD (10-3/4" ID) x 8-1/4" H

Probably not a surprise as I posted it recently but this has to be my favorite of the year.

I don't buy Antiques for myself. I buy a few throughout the year to give to my Wife for Christmas. (I start shopping in January LOL) I think this year this Welz dresser set has to top the list.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you bought this for your wife for Christmas, I hope she never looks at this forum! :);)

    Ooooooh....uuuuum...

    Hmmmm....

    Can I list them?

1). Carriage clock. French. Ca. 1905-1920.

Why? Because I've chased one of these since I was a kid! And I finally have one. And I LOVE IT!!

2). Solid brass tiffin carrier. Ca. 1900.

Been after one of these for about 5-10 years. Finally got it!!

3). Big-ass Italian-made brass spice mill (still researching this one).

    I just like it, OK??

    4). Brass apothecary-style mortar & pestle. Ca. 1880 (?)

Bought this from a lady who was selling off pieces she got in a box-lot. This came from an old physician's house, apparently, and he collected antique medical equipment.

I hope it's yet to come...

but if not, I've so far been happy about this timeless 20 x 16 inch marquetry frame, dated between 1850 and 1910, so far, depending on the person. And of course it needs a really nice picture, or a mirror to complete it.

I've found some cool stuff this year but the cake taker (first photo) has to be this Statue of Liberty lamp. I fought to win her. :)
She does not have her original shade so the one with a shade is what I've learned she probably should have.
I hope to find one someday and if I don't...I believe I can make one. :)

Found this genuine photo at a carboot for a pound. It's one that was produced for The Prince and the Showgirl' publicity image.jpg image.jpg according to one of the big Auction Houses. Sadly because there is no photographer Richard Avedon stamp on the back they wouldn't sell it so I'll keep her. Shiny surface not Matt as first picture.

This has been a good year for me as far as finds go. I've got 2 favorites...

One is this Loetz vase with sterling decoration. It is engraved "MF 1909". I bought it thinking I would sell it, but when I cleaned it up and saw my initials engraved in the silver, I knew it wasn't going anywhere :)

And this delicate necklace, 10K with small rubies and seed pearls.

A 2017 Chevy Volt. Purchased in mid-April with a full tank of gas and we've only filled it once since. Oh, and solar panels for the house.

I bought a book about Kennedy's assassination for 50 cents at a estate sale and found this letter in it, it looks like a real signature.
Here is a link to a newspaper article about this letter.

    Hope so!
There are sites you can check it on.
Don't know that she would've employed an autopen and with this that would've been rude, to me at least, so doubt it.
I think he did for many things.
