Candle Mold.jpg I bought this cast iron "Votive Candle Mold" because I thought it looked neat and I assumed it was used to snuff out candles in hard-to-reach places. After I got it home, I tried looking online for what it is exactly, what it was used for, and timeframe it was used but I can't find a darn thing about it or even anything that looks like it, so I figured I would reach out to you online experts to get some insights, please. Can anyone tell me what exactly a "votive candle mold" is, what it would have been used for and when it would have been used? Thank You. Candle Mold 2.jpg

Not sure how that would work as either a mold or a candle snuffer. Would/could you post a photograph of the tag?

I thought it was a candle snuffer until I saw the end is solid not hollow like snuffers usually are.

I'm finding several similar items to yours:

    1. Round Timbale Iron: a metal mold made in any of several shapes and usually provided with a long handle, for deep-frying timbales. [1890–95]

Let's go with the first one cause the second one sounds awful. :(

It doesn't even appear to be tin. Do you believe it to be?

How would that work? Wouldn't it have to be hollow? I'm confused.

edit: oh, would it be pressed down on tin to shape it or something; is that what you mean?

Ok, I understand how they use the cast iron mold to dip into tin to make the candle molds to make candles. Funny that I can't find another example of it on the internet...? Thanks Aquitaine!!

Hey TDC, can you tell me how you went about finding these? I assume you used an image search, which is what I did and found zilch...
