Sometimes he looks sub-Saharan African. I've also seen him look Peruvian.

I would think that all Catholics would be familiar with that painting. It seems to live in classsrooms and convents and Catholic hospitals everywhere, along with private homes. The expression on the face, regardless of ethnicity, seems to project the tenets of Catholic faith.

I have had on a wall for many years, a very small copy of "The Light of the World." And here is a peculiarity: not one of my Christian friends has ever noticed it, commented about it, admired it. But ALL of my Jewish friends have. All of those things. (???)

I have seen this print a lot over the years. I think the value is in the nice frame.

Another print which shows up constantly in the above-named places, is Ferruzzi's Madonna of the Streets. It is a sweet painting, but a puzzlement. It is not even pretending to be the Virgin, and except when it's part of the title of the work, the lady in question would be a small case "m."

However, all the Sisters Mary Agony* have it in the convents.

You're right, Feruzzi didn't paint it as a Madonna picture, but it was interpreted that way. The 'Jesus' was actually the younger brother of the 'Madonna'. The girl was 11 at the time, so younger than Mary was supposed to have been.
Lovely painting though, and a beautiful little girl.
