Hi. I recently purchaced an umbrella stand from an antique shop in Tacoma Wa. I have searched the internet and not been able to find anything similar. I'll describe it now and post a pic later today.
It's made from some sort of wrought iron or cast iron (have no idea what the difference is, but fairly certin it's iron. Its shape is that of a partially opend upside down umbrella with a wide circular base. It has solid colord glass (think stained glass) sides (where an umbrellas material would be). I was told it was early to mid-century and brought to the U.S. from France by the old man i purchaced it from. I'm trying to find out any additioanl info on this as well as if it is truly worth what I paid for it.
    Thanks!!

    Cast is...well...cast in a mold.
Wrought is...well...wrought from raw steel by hand.

It's lovely....& the glass panels are rich with color.

Check back here , as more members offer their opinions..!

While we here generally don't value items, if we find similar items that have costs associated with them....we'll show you were to look.

Thanks. We love it. A couple of the glass panels are cracked. but not really noticable. I'm really not that concerned with the value (although it would be nice to know). I'm really just trying to find out more about it. I've looked for markings or any identifiable features on it and haven't been able to see any. I'll watch the thread here for opinions. Thanks again!

I could make that and would get the glass at a stained glass supply which is where you might be able to get a close match.
If I was making it all new I'd look into plastic sheets instead because of what it is. At least I'd put thin clear or matte plastic inside to protect the glass. You can still do this.

Welcome, Jeff! I think we'll need more pictures - details of construction, how the glass panels are held in place, etc. to comment about age. The story you were told *could* be true or it could be a *decorator item* from the 80's. It's really hard to tell without more closeups.

    It sure is neat looking!
