Hello. We have this tureen bowl, which is something we inherited a long time ago. We are in the UK. I would be extremely grateful for any advice from anyone has any knowledge of these. It does not have any maker's marks on it. I have googled and the pattern seems to be a common one for Staffordshire pottery. However, there also seem to be similar ones that were made in China for export. In particular, the dragon head finials are significantly different from the Staffordshire pottery examples I have seen. I know this might be a very specialized area. However, any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. James

I’m leaning to Chinese. That blue tinge.

Thanks very much for your reply. I wish I had a time machine and could go back and ask the maker to put some identifying information on the base like you see with Moorcroft pottery!

I might also post these images on a relevant Chinese porcelain Facebook group out of interest.

    Best wishes,
    James

I'm also leaning Chinese as the pattern is pretty crisp and older blue willow patterns generally are "softer," and that's a calico pattern that the knob (lion?) is covered in and I'm not sure that was done with older English ones.

Yes. Thanks for that. Also, you are right that the finials are lions not dragons. (And they are similar to ones on John Rogers & Son, a late Georgian manufacturer.)

I will post here if I get any more information. Best wishes.

This is just a quick update to give you the details about this piece that I have now found out. In summary, it is a c1830s to 1840s Staffordshire (English) transfer printed. Thanks to everyone that posted above.
