IMG_3471.JPG All I know is that the supposed country of origin is Tibet and they said it was antique but were unsure of the exact age. Let me know what you guys think! Go easy on me if it's junk, I just started to get into antiquing again.

The sinuous design on the back is a version of the "Green Man" or "West Wind." Western culture not Eastern. And those turned legs and stretchers too.

Yes it definitely looks like a "North Wind Chair" says they were popular in the mid to late 19th century. The chair I won at an estate sale auction, seemed like a unique piece of furniture. Thanks for all of he responses so far, at least now I'm looking in the right country of origin and have a good idea as to what it is!

    Welcome, Asiantiquer.
Wonderful chair, but not in an auctioneers wildest dreams Tibetan. But you already have your answer.

With Tibetan furniture the focus is not on carving but on colour. Traditionally Tibetans don't sit in armchairs, but on small stools or benches. The furniture is mostly cabinets, chests, low tables and altars.
What you see on the market now is almost all recently made and painted in garish colours.
In the past some armchairs were imported from India and China, and now they are being made for hotels and other tourist accomodation.

Modern Tibetan, with television etc, and a Chinese coffeetable. The central cooking hub is still visible on the lower left:
