No idea who and where made it but appears to be old. Not sure but maybe salt glazed?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I sorta get a more modern feel... with the free-form rim. Does the inside feel as if was hand-coiled? It looks BIG... is it?

Not that big, about 4 3/4 tall.
I doubt it is modern. It is not free form, more like it was not potted in a perfect shape. The inside is ribbed but I don't know how to tell coiled from wheel thrown. I would think if it was done on a wheel, it would have more round shape.

That makes sense. It looks coiled to me, which is a very old-fashioned (and maybe old, indeed) way to construct pottery. Pottery peeps??????????

I was thinking to do that but was not sure if the bowl falls in that category. I guess it won't hurt asking there.

They say stoneware and red ware. Doesn't say they are limited to crocks.
It does appear to have some age.

Let us know what they say.

    Hi Gila,
I agree, they were very polite and helpful, everytime I have contacted them. I had a very plain bowl once that everyone thought was new, they informed me it was 18th century and it sold for over four figures.

Got curious. Greg, any chance you keep a photo of the bowl you sold?

    Hi Kard,
No, lost all the pictures when my PC went to the ozone about 12 years ago.

They do look very similar. The author of your article used sp after the Conrad Londonberg. Somehow, a stroke of luck, I found the correct spelling: Conrad Langenberg,. He did not sign his pieces.

Did you find any info on Mr. Conard? I wonder how do they know that he made the bowl ( by they way they say "the two pieces", which is the second one?) when they are not sure of the correct spelling. Maybe they have a provenance.
I emailed them so let's see what they have to say.

I Googled Conrad Langenberg Pottery. There were several articles some examples but no bowls other than the one you found. I did not bookmark them because I was looking for another Bowl.

These are sites that have pictures. He made red ware some glazed and some not. I notice incised marks around the crock and pitcher like on your bowl. Your bowl looks like it is red under the glaze however the bottom does not look like red clay to me.

Your bowl interested me enough that I started to search the web. I am not a pottery expert by any means.

Correct, my bowl is made out of red clay but it is glazed on the exterior and has finish ( paint?) on the interior.

Doesn't look like redware to me, maybe it's just your pictures. Looks like there's a slight green tint in the glaze as you'd see with an alkaline glaze (best seen in your last photo). I'd be looking more towards South Carolina, like Edgefield.
