This is an old (not sure how old) spoon I purchased within the last couple of years and I was hoping someone could ID the spoon.

The spoon is made of sterling silver and is gold plated and measures about 5 3/4" in length. On the back of the spoon it is stamped with "Sterling" "925 over 1000" and what looks like a lion passant hallmark.

Does anyone know who made the spoon, when it was made and the pattern that is on the spoon?

    Thanks!
    Kevin

Wow that was fast, thanks! I was looking under Gorham hallmarks and didn't see it there.

    Hi,
Any time I see the 925/1000 on flatware I usually turn to Towle first.

If I am seeing the right size, it would be called a sugar spoon. Beautiful spoon!

Thanks Susan, when I'm not sure at the moment if it's gold vermeil, gold plate, gold wash, gold rolled, etc... or when it's not marked as such and when I'm not sure I sometimes defer to gold plate or even gold tone when asking about an item. Listed below on the bottom is a link (one of many available) which explains some of these if anyone is interested.

BTW - They sure want a lot for that spoon $129.95

Good article, thank you for posting a link to it.

Replacements prices are always high because of their huge overhead. There are probably 100s employed there. If you try to sell this spoon to them, you won't get anywhere near what they are selling for theirs.
