Featured Antique Sofa

Hello! I am hoping that someone can help me identify this sofa. It was a gift (wedding present)and I have no history or idea where to start. Id love to know any info and possible value. Thanks

The leather looks too new for it to be an older piece......but the style looks too old for it to be a newer item......
So you see....I'm conflickted !!!

 

JCole, you know it was a "wedding present" so you have "some" history.

Was it a "wedding present" to you or was it a "wedding present" to your parents or another member of your "extended" family (grandparents? aunts/uncles?).

Or is "it was a gift" what the person who gave it (or sold it) to you said it was?

 

Think this is basically a Federal period piece. However, that carving is unusual for such.

 

Welcome to the group! That is a lovely piece of furniture! I am not an expert in furniture but I believe someone has invested a good sum to have it expertly and very tastefully re upholstered. In general antique furniture has taken a bit of a hit in value lately and I wouldn't want to hazard a guess at value but if I came across this (and I kicked my cats out) I would be willing to pay pre 2008 prices without batting an eye. I have never seen one like it and it is stunning IMHO. Now I am going to go kick my cat and dream about beautiful Federal period couches....
