    Hi Friends,

Does anyone recognize this piece or know what the scene is all about? Thanks! 20230317_041423.jpg 20230317_041441.jpg

    Thanks!

A girl looking in a mirror after she's had a bath. The girl could be Asian, and it is a theme that is popular in Indonesian art, especially Balinese art.
Having said that, I have never seen a piece like this before.
Sweet scene though, and good quality art.

What's the medium? Is the frame wood or composite? (I ask because the hardware looks quite new.)

I think it's relatively recent. The image looks like it's on plastic and the frame is recent-ish. She'd sell though, nekkid ladies always do.

It wants to be ivory, but it's awfully big for a piece of tusk and no schreger lines to be seen. I've seen lots of similar items (minus the visible ladyparts) "engraved" on plastic.

I frequently put that type of wire ring on pictures that have lost or never had anything to run wire on. My gut says that's not a new piece.

The art seems to be on resin or bone--the framing seems to be painted wood or resin.

    Don't think it's ivory.

I don’t know, can’t decide new vs old. It’s very interesting. Happy to be reading all the comments.

There seem to have been some stickers or labels on the back originally. Maybe explaining the item and providing info (or maybe even price?)

Anyway the sticker/labels marks make me think of one of those information labels: “this is a copy of’ Strange that the stickers/labels were removed?

Overall I think is a reproduction of something and maybe borderline vintage (but not that old or antique) Think the frame is maybe painted plaster?

    Maybe a Bakelite etching?

Since this piece has generated some discussion, I just examined it further. To my surprise, the art is not 2-dimensional, but 3. Lots of small raised bumps, as if tooled. Also, not sure what that is under the paper backing, but I'm including a closeup in the pics.

Could we have the size of the engraving so we can calculate the size of the mammouth ?
.... then again, it could be celluloid ..

Can you see if the frame used to be golden ( check edges )

The silver paint seems very fresh and shiny, compared to the old paper backing.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I did lighten her up and down in the shadows on her leg and OFF her leg, both areas (one circled the other with an arrow by her backside) show where I've found writing.....the problem is I couldn't bring it out any more than what's showing.........the oval on her leg looks like it 'could' be a signature, the other is "I THINK" letter & number/s......best I could do tonight........click on her....she'll enlargen....maybe you have a good strong loupe.....

The engraving is about 6.5" x 5 1/8". Looking at where some of the paint is worn, I'm not sure if there was black or even gold underneath the silver.
