I picked this rocker up off the curb. We were just going to have fun painting it, but then I started wondering if it was antique. The only metal hardware it has are two screws and two nails (pictures). I don't know what type of wood it is. Can anyone tell me if this is antique or not and what era it might be?

I can't tell you how old it is, but from the gray look of it, it spent a lot of time outdoors.

Yeah, it's in pretty bad condition.

I just wanted to add that I am in the Boston area, if that helps anyone identify.

1890s Eastlake. A nice little piece, actually. Just find a new one with this craftsmanship!
Sadly almost worthless, financially. It would look great refinished in natural wood tones, but it would be a labor of love. Go ahead and paint it; at least you’re keeping it out of the landfill. Thanks for that!
