Antique & Ornate London-Sterling Item??..Hallmark ID Help??

    I think I was able to get...London..Sterling..Foreign Mfg...1816-1896??...There are a few more hallmarks & makers marks??...What is this??...It has no bottom & could have been attached to something.     No help on ID, etc, but it probably once had a glass insert.You give no size, so anything from an ornate salt to a fruit/sauce bowl

    And your item cannot have been assayed in London before the 1896 date. It's missing the monarch's head tax mark that was discontinued about 1890.

    I'd call the style Rococo, or neo-Rococo, or Rococo Revival.


    I'd get Rococo in there somewhere.

    Bakersgma....I believe this is Claude D.Roussell...Would the 6 side mercury make it .950 silver??..

    You're probably right. Now that I look back I see the smudged dice under the name.

    As for 925 vs 950, I think you can only assume the British mark at 925 without the details on the Mercury. Admittedly the other Mercury is way lower, but still.
