Found this painting at a thrift store, it looks Victorian to me. Measures 10" x 8". It is signed, W. J. Edmondson. Any info about the age, artist or value would be much appreciated. antique-oil-painting-william-john-edmondson-3030.jpg antique-oil-painting-william-john-edmondson-1865.jpg antique-oil-painting-william-john-edmondson-5597.jpg antique-oil-painting-william-john-edmondson-3548.jpg antique-oil-painting-william-john-edmondson-7615.jpg

If someone with all that training painted this, he probably should have taken a different career path.

The comps on this artist were so strange... He was born in 1868, so this MIGHT have been done by him in Ohio, but much later he emerged as a Californian artist.

Even given that, the "Californian" stage paintings attributed to him don't match up, side by side, as being by the same artist.

Haystacks were in those comps, but in a much different style.

Not his best work and dirty but he did have an eye for color (and a thing for haystacks.)
