    Thought someone might comment.

    Brass not bronze.
    I see two flat head screws at the top of the handle. So either repaired, or not as old as you think.

    I too,believe it was stripped and about to be repaired...My main concern is about the

    H.B & Hallmark (Maker)..Picture # 2

    I looked on a few foundry mark sites and didn't find your mark.
