Hi! I purchased a old watercolor signed BMS but haven't found any clues about who it might be. So I thought maybe I could date the painting by the nails that were in the frame holding the wood down on the back. They are different sizes and looks like the longest is maybe 1 inch and flat. Hi,
They look like cut nails. Unfortunately they have been making this these for centuries and are still made today.

Actually I didn't know it was signed until I took out of frame. The painting is glued down on a paper board.

What does it say in the mat below that corner?

I think that is just glue.

Why would there be glue on that side?

The matting around the painting was there and covering up the signature too. I guess it was holding the matting but it fell right off when I took out of frame.

I was confused by why we could see the signature and the glued side of the board at the same time. Carry on!

It's very pretty, good to get that old frame off to clean it all up :cat:

Yes I would like to have it reframed. I took it apart to get the old wood off the back. Got it for hardly nothing and to see it was signed was a surprise even though I can't find the artist.
