When I picked up this little vase, I thought it was pewter. It was surprisingly heavy, though, for something that is only 4 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter at the base. I turned it over and noticed that layers of metal were peeling off the bottom. Upon closer inspection, I could feel the slick, silky texture of glass in one place where the metal was completely gone (last photo.) There is a smidge of a paper label, so perhaps this is a old reproduction not an antique mercury glass piece. I thought I would ask, what your thoughts are. I placed in the antique discussion forum because it isn't really a glass piece, and it isn't really metal. I have read that it isn't really mercury, but items of this type are called this. Any comments appreciated.
