antique jade?

bought this interesting jade dagger or knife or sword which seems to be ceremonial because it has no sharp edges. And it has oracle bone script on it. It measures 40 cm long and 14 cm wide on the widest point. the jade is translucent and It is called a Zhang. Does it have any age?

 

This looks like it could be old jade, the knife shape in Chinese culture is to “ward off evil spirits” according to my wife.

I did a little search for jade Zhang shapes by period, the first one has some in the taper of the blade and a slight tilt in the tang. Maybe you can narrow the age by the style of the blade.

I wish I could tell you, all I can do is give you some help for you to decide where to go with it, auction estimates are where I often go after google and I try more than one if I don’t agree. After a couple rejections it doesn’t matter if I’m right or not, the market has spoken and has the final word.

 

Do i understand correctly that you mean that i have to search the internet for auction results of simmilair items. But that will be difficult because i have not found a second one like it.

No, although I do that too. I’ll look for any auction house that has a history of listing whatever it is I’m looking for information on and send them my information and pictures, sometimes I’ll get no reply but usually I’ll get some feedback in a range of auction estimate, maybe a request for more information or something to the effect it is not a good fit for their auction meaning the value is not enough for them to bother. Most time I cut and paste the information so it relatively easy to send the information around to different auctioneers.
