    Hello,
Can anyone help identify this sofa or care to comment on it?

Yes, It was recovered along with several over pieces in a very similar covering. Does the carving suggest a certain time period? It is a very heavy frame. The previous owners had it in the '40's. I'm not sure if it was new then or not. And yes love seat would be a much more accurate description

Value is really dependent to where you are and how selling. That fabric might be a detriment even though in good condition. This would cost a fortune to have reupholstered.

These days, with that upholstry and that carving ... I'd wish whoever sold it good luck, sorry to say. Around here the local ReStore would mark it $250 to start with and mark it down to around $75 before someone finally made off with it. Victorian inspired bits just don't sell here.

Could well be English and I think a bit earlier, maybe late 19th into the 20th. Those high backed ones were designed as draught excluders - that almost looks like a club piece. I bet it was leather.

In leather, that would sell in a heartbeat.

More than the couch is worth, without a doubt.

Annpan Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.

It does look British although I have a French one that is similar. We call them cottage suites. Not the best of sellers in the UK as there are plenty of them around. :)

It may be sacrilegious but if I had it I would rebuild it into a chair. Nice carvings but not much else. It would of course be for my own use, most antique furniture is not saleable any more.:(:mask:
