    Hey,
My neighbors were throwing a headboard out and I told them I would take it instead of it going to the dumpster.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a maker or date. I couldn't find any marking other than XXXIII on the back top and dont know much about dating screws. I was also wondering if it was handcrafted or done by machinery or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Circa 1880, transitional from renaissance revival to Eastlake. Walnut. Factory made. Roman numerals are used to match parts. Likely bed number 33 in production at the time.

Nice save; the walnut wood to make a new one would cost a fortune, and I'm still an Eastlake fan.

My nephew took one like this(not as nice as yours),added a bench and period coat hooks, and sold it as a hall tree.
