We've had this cabinet for about 10 years. The only marking on it is a number 16 on the edge of the door. We think it's a radio cabinet because it has holes in the back. We did see the same cabinet for sale on a craigslist ad several years ago, so we know more than one was made. Can anyone give me any ideas of what it is, who might have made it and when it was made? TIA!

In its day the radio cost about the same as a car. Today it has limited interest.

Would think this European unless a custom high-end cabinet for an American radio.

Thanks for the comments! I did look at the latch for clues and it's marked Francis Keil & Son New York. This would seem to me it's American made. Thoughts?

    Hi Terry,
I have a Nat Geo magazine from 1928. One page has a brand new Lincoln for sale for 750 dollars, The next page was an RCA radio for 1200 dollars.

Francis Keil & Son made the hardware only but makes it a pretty good bet that this is American. Some of the best furniture makers made radio cabinets but they were not available at your local radio store. You would need to have them made to order. I believe this is probably one such cabinet.

gregsglass is on the mark.... a one of or very limited production, likely 1927-32. I'll go through my console radio book and see if it's cataloged.

Nice item, I'd think many folks would want to make liquor cabinets out of these, not so many as before would want an entertainment center because it won't hold a big screen tv.
