    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me anything about this object?

I bought it alongside some other stone carvings of different shapes and sizes, most with a small hole so I'm guessing pendants.

I guess the figure may be the deity Shou Lau.

    Thanks a lot,

    Calum

Thanks AnyJelry, that's a shame though, thought it might have been the real deal!

Here's another couple of the bits I got

Buying Chinese art is difficult, there are so many copies and fakes.
They are all copies or inspired by Chinese Archaic jades.
The first one is inspired by the Hongshan culture 'pig-dragon'. There are few real ones, and those are not allowed to leave the country. The real ones are green and beautifully smooth, not (artificially) pitted like that.

Genuine Chinese Archaic jades that were already outside China before legislation regarding the export of antiques, are rare and extremely valuable.

Thanks a lot for the info.

They didn't cost me much so it would have been incredible if they were archaic.

I'll need to do some more reading on archaic jades, they seem like really interesting objects.

This one looks like an alien?!

They are fun pieces, and the translucent one is actually very nice.
Yes, they are. They also give an insight into Chinese art in general. Why certain designs evolved, and the fact that there is still so much Archaic art influence to this day.
    Some examples:

It does, and it is also Hongshan style, so not the real deal.
