    Hi there,

I acquired this chair when purchasing a storage unit in Oregon City, OR. It appears to be an antique but I have no knowledge of the subject. If anyone could please tell me if it has any value, or if anyone may be interested in something like this? Chair 1.jpg Chair 2.jpg

Condition is poor, looks like it may have been recovered.

Its approx. 39" Tall and 21" wide.

Any info. you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@OLDCHEVY1984, Yes, in fairly rough condition and unless those turn out to be very famous names, i.e. someone pretty much de-valued it by carving them into it!!! The wood frame itself, for the most part, looks to be in decent condition and could be reupholstered if you like it...........AND WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!!! Others should be along as well!:)

Looks like E Baldwin put his or her Social Security Number on it. There was a time when doing so was a way to ensure you could prove it was yours if it were stolen.

That's a Mess-with-me if ever I saw one. Looks to be about 1870-ish so not valued now even if it were in perfect shape. Victorian wood may well come back, but it hasn't yet.

Well...it looks a perfect wreck, but really, it is as cute as all get out! The present "upholstery" is even attractive. (Wrecked, but attractive!)
Can't you make this your summer project? :)

Must have been valued by someone as SS# applied for reason above. Starting numbers 540-544 were indeed assigned to Oregon so the Baldwin family may be old timers there.

According to familysearch.org, lots of Baldwins and Churchills in Oregon City. I'd guess from markings originally a Churchill family chair passed down by marriage into the Baldwin family.

Renaissance revival, walnut, circa 1880. Sinuous springs are not original. Little to no value in this condition. Nice project for someone but doubt you will find anyone willing to pay to take it on.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I looked up the number in the Social Security Death Index on Ancestry. The owner was named Elizabeth Baldwin (born 1892 in Wisconsin, died 1982 in Oregon). In several censuses she was enumerated in Portland, Oregon. She apparently never married, and is buried next to one of her sisters in the Friends Cemetery in Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon. The name of the cemetery seems to suggest that the family may have been Quakers.
