This bell jar lantern is green and shaped like grapes or a strawberry? Is is hand blown into a mold. There are bubbles in it that look like chips but aren’t.

Question: what is the age of the lantern? And as a stretch, who made it?

I notice the dragon head hooks are the same. I suppose this one is old. I paid $5.00 for it. Having no clue what it was used for. I just loved the glass!

I like the color of the glass very much too. Have you checked with UV light whether it is uranium glass? Color doesn't appear quite right for it, but worth testing.

They look like peacocks to me too. Which is why they look sort of Indian, I guess. But the grape decoration makes me think of a grape growing country, maybe wine producing.
My guess is Mediterranean Europe. Peacock motifs are popular in several southern European countries, Spain and Greece for instance. The rustic look of the metalwork could point to Greece.

I took this to an antique appraiser and he said “It’s not very old because it has seams”. I asked him what it took to maintain his appraiser’s license. He said “In North Carolina you don’t have to have a license.” I lost respect and I wanted to scream that 1800’s blown glass can have seams. Sigh. I guess anyone could hang a shingle saying they are antique appraisers.

I was thinking Morocco or thereabouts. Not sure it's that old, but well worth five dollars.

As to old glass not having seams................!

Financial Advisors here are very very regulated indeed.

Last I heard, to become a licensed appraiser in the USA, you just had to attend a rather pricey week-long seminar in Vegas ..after that, Antiques Roadshow baby!!

I’m working on becoming a quilt appraiser and it takes 5+ years plus being an apprentice under another certified appraiser.

I have a similar one that is a reproduction from the store Anthroplogie (sp). It has that Moroccan vibe to it.
