About 3" long. Someone posted something similar to this on the ebay boards a while back, but I don't remember the outcome of what it was. Kind of crudely made, whatever it is.

Is it some sort of hat or scarf pin?

It could be though I'm trying to figure out why that attached ring moves back and forth. Maybe something hung on it for decoration? Or a scarf was threaded through that area?

IDK though, it seems a bit plain & unevenly made to be an adornment on clothing.

The mark on the pin itself is just a ding.

There is a mark on the oval ring thingy that I thought sure was also just a ding, but looking through a loupe, it looks very much like a man in profile.

I doubt I can get a decent picture of it but I'll try.

well the 3rd pic down ...the mark looks like a number......and that pin has a gold tone to it......at least in the photo....

Would the swinging piece be much like youd see on a belt?

Here's the mark that you're seeing. It might be something other than just a ding, but I don't see any kind of discernible shape to it. The gold tone you're seeing is just my lighting...it's all just plain silver tone.

The only thing I can think of is a little stake to hold a young plant's stem upright?

Here's a guess. How about that thing jabbed through leather on the inside of the Dusenberg, and held a lovely little glass container for water and one exquisite rose to waft its perfume toward Milady?

(Notice the Dusenberg, she said yearningly. :))

I wish I could remember more about that post on ebay. I'm thinking someone answered who might show up here....savvyspyglass, maybe?

I thought the item had something to do with sewing or possibly a chatelaine (though I can't imagine what for either one).
