Featured another silver thingy

hi folks

this is another silver thingy, that came with the other silver thingy(pictured) that tests as silver

perhaps they are linked someway, or familiar type things

any thoughts appreciated

 

It was a casting(cut sprues) and was to top piece soldered to something.Rectangular solder area seems to have broken off from main piece.

 

Are you sure it's a thingy? Could it be either a what's-it or a thingamajig? I'm so confused, I never can tell the difference

Half a belt buckle, but the bar has become detached. See the two places where it would have been?

Pretty useless as it is then unless it can be transformed into something

 

Ya reckon it could somehow be bent round to form a ring ?

 

It would make a splendid hat or jacket ornament, sewn on. Might even be able to carefully wire it on to a clip back.

 

gonna be a massive beauty, measurements mean it should fit perfect, once its fully hammered flush to guide

taking it very slowly !!

 

Also the curved piece that hooks onto the other side of the belt buckle is gone (bottom of pics 2 &4). Perhaps a hole for an "O" ring for a necklace (top of pics 1 &3) could be drilled. There is already a pock mark there. Rough edges could be filed off.

 

Looks like it could have been half of a buckle.

 

That piece is from what is known as a nurses belt. I do not know about the Edwardian part, but I do know it is called a nurses belt. Each piece is hooked to the next piece with 2 "O" rings. The part you have is one of the pieces of the buckle that has lost the flat bar on the back for the other half of the buckle. I thought it was sterling, but I have learned that it is silver plate. I used to wear it a lot, but now this 80 yo is too big around the belt line area to wear it. Need to add about 6 more pieces! Gus is right! and so is daveydempsey.

 

They come in both silver and silver plate.
