    Another charity shop bargain!
I’m seeing similar rings described as antique and anywhere from 1850 to 1970.Not identical but similar style with the overlapping band. I’d initially assumed it was fairly modern but maybe not?
The filigree looks nice quality but WDIK! Gold coloured but marked silver.
    Ivory? :stop::( I hope not.
    Thanks for looking

Gold washed Chinese export silver. Between the wars or earlier. I do think it's ivory, I can see cross hatching. Lovely thing.

    I thought it might be:(
On the bright side I can tell my OH it’s illegal for me to sell so I’ll just have to keep it!.
    It’s older than I expected.
    Thankyou
It’s a little work of art.

Is this a bypass ring? Did you peek beneath overlap for a mark?

It’s more of a side by side setting. Maybe adjustable is a better term.

I don’t think it was side by side, just my using the wrong term.

It's adjustable, old school. And seconds on the ivory "forcing" her to keep it!

Got it. All the time I hear new jewelry terms. I appreciate you showing the example.

The band overlaps to allow adjustments but that’s a good idea to check where it’s obscured, I’ll have a look later.

Lol, he did suggest replacing the ivory with a nice cabochon (which isn’t actually a bad idea unless I’m destroying something unique?)but I have no idea why he thinks by making it prettier and more wearable that would make me more likely to sell it :D

Yes, most rings I find are tiddlers but this is good.

    Ksw, nice find!
I don't know where you live but here in Belgium I see ivory beeing sold everywhere around me both by people who actually know what they have as by people who don't :sorry:
If you tell them what they do is illegal, they just change the description to: 'a noble material' and keep on selling.:(
10- 15 years ago people in the town where I live were still able to buy new old stock ivory from some religious monastery who send its people to Congo till the seventies.
Laws are good but people will always find a way to adapt to be able to do what they want.
So just keep this ring in its original state, please, and just enjoy it and maybe pass it on to your relatives.

    It is gorgeous, K.
Don't want to put a damper on things, but I still saw these sold new in the early 70s. Chinese were never very fussy about adhering to international agreements on their favourite materials.
But what's done is done, it is vintage, and by buying true vintage for a song you don't support the illegal ivory trade. Keep it and enjoy it.
On the Dutch 'Marktplaats' they also use that term. Or instead of 'ivoor' (ivory) they will spell it 'iv00r' or 'iveur', so it won't be picked up by the digital control system, but everyone knows what it is.
To be fair, the listings I've seen were for pre-CITES ivory, which can still be sold legally overhere.
