Well here's old box 2, seems a bit more primitive than the first 'Inlaid' one. It's 4" by 6" by 9". Lined with red flocked paper and block or screened-printed paper. The one interesting thing about it is the screws look to have had their tips clipped, the hinges seem 'funky' and the veneer's thick.
PS-Found this next to Box 1.

Thanks raver-high praise considering your museum quality containers !
My guess (re OBB) would be mid-late 19th Century (I defer to You, OBB,Brad & Ghopper on boxes, wood & furniture-type items).
    BONUS-The lock/key work like a charm !

I would say 1810-1830, flame mahogany panel with maple?

BTW be carful of the green paper, arsenic was used if original.

Uhm you can....not touch it? Or inhale particles of it. :doctor: It's danger is through absorption (primarily through inhaling and absorbing through your membranes). So I guess if you want to utilize the box you could cut something to fit over the liner in each section. You could do a plastic film to see the pattern, but I would pick something acid free and a thicker weight (so it doesn't move much). So probably something at an art or archival supply.

Take care cleaning the dust out and wear protection.

Interesting stuff...might have contributed to killing Napoleon. Scheele's Green wiki.

Here's an 1874 book called 'Shadows from the Walls of Death-by R. C. Kedzie: Facts and Inferences Prefacing a Book of Specimens of Arsenical Wall Papers'.
    https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/kedzie-shadows/
It features sample of dozens of samples of poisonous period wallpaper.Whatever sad souls printed, bound (or read ?) this volume-RIP. Arsenic wallpaper may have killed whole families.Needless to say CSI wasn't as sophisticated 150-200 years ago so documentation's somewhat sketchy.

It is that age, I'd be very surprised if it's later but I doubt I'm wrong.

*Ditto-Some kind of archival Mylar might do the trick ?...or it might just remain an objet d'art.

Thicker veneer = older. Hand cut. I’d think Georgian. The interior paper looks period, not sure the flock is. Good old lock too. I think the inlay is mahogany.

It may well be made in the States, unusual to find that combination of woods in Europe.

Some plastic films aren't acid free (and can vinegarize!) so just keep that in mind when you're researching and selecting.

Georgian era U.S. made would be delightful.
