IMG_6525.JPG IMG_6526.jpg IMG_6527.jpg IMG_6528.jpg My son has a good eye for bargains. This also cost $5. The arm on the left is split, but can be fixed. He doesn't think it's an antique, but it's rather nice. He thought it would make a good Mrs. Claus chair when I do my readings downtown at the Community center. I plan to put some velcro along the top and bottom and attach a nice piece of fabric that we can remove when he brings it back to the house. All we need to do now is figure out where to put it. We tend to be furniture hogs.

He pointed out that I can sit in the middle and have a child on either side. We aren't sure where it's from or how old it is.

How perfect, Bev! I bet you could even use a throw on it - I'm seeing a Christmasy pattern or even velvet!

(Sadly, I know that MY back wouldn't be happy with that curve...)

Yeah, if I lean back in this I'll never get up again! I plan to use a green/gold material to offset my red dress and maybe put some cushions behind me to prop me up!

I think it is an old frame that was re upholstered in leather/vinyl.
    Looks like early 1900s.

This is another one of those British colonial reproductions from Indonesia or India. It is based on the so-called plantation chair. I find a nearly identical chair version on Pinterest but, as always, the original source of the photo is unobtainable.

Here is something similar from Indonesia offered new.......

Perfect for Mrs. Claus and two children! Will you post pictures of her in it?

Neither would mine. When Schiphol/Amsterdam Airport introduced chairs like that, I had to resort to the toilets to find a place to sit, not very comfortable either. Travel was already very taxing on my health, but that was the last straw.

Yes, one of the Dutch colonial planter type chairs from Indonesia. Indonesia was a Dutch colony. Java (Indonesia) was British from 1811-1816, but I don't think those few years had much impact on furniture manufacture.;)

Thanks. Good work. I looked at one of the sales sites that prices the chair alone at $509. My love seat is probably a bit more. Not bad for a $5 yard sale find.

I never know whether such things are British or Dutch colonial. The companies that sell the reproductions don't make any distinction and most kind of play up an East Indies connection, whether true or not. Much more romantic to think the origin of your furniture is a windswept tropical island plantation. In fairness, similar colonial furniture was made in the Caribbean and sometimes the provenance is a bit murky on such true antiques these were patterned from, given how things travel around these days.

You are likely right on these chairs. The reproductions I posted were made in Indonesia. However, not all colonial reproduction furniture made in Indonesia these days has their original origin there. ;)

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

GREAT FIND for $5 bucks!!!!! BUT I would plaster Velcro all over the back of whatever kind of throw you put over it on the seat AND you, so you both don't go flying right on out, what with that lovely curve!!!!!! I think it's really neat, but that curve says to me, I just couldn't stay sitting upright!!!:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: But as your Mrs. Claus settee, it should be WONDERFUL!!!!!! (maybe rubber soled shoes too!)
