Have acquired a rosewood side table which badly requires cleaning. The top is near black in colour and has gunge built up in the intricately carved top. The gunge I believe is linseed oil. Is there anything I can use to dissolve/remove the build up of linseed oil and dust?
Tried a small portion of the raised parts with foam pot scrubber and water then buffed with wood balsam and looks pretty good with no visible damage to wood. However cleaning between the carvings is going to be a bit more difficult and I think I need something to dissolve the linseed oil and then perhaps clean with toothbrush? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Libnet from Liberon products is what I use but I don't know if it is still made or available wherever you are. With that sort of thing a big tin usually lasts years. It removes old wax polish and incidentally sticky residue from labels.

    Cheers, in the UK!
Checked Liberon website and apparently its stocked locally so will give that a go!

I am sure that lacquer thinner will do it but may remove more than you want if not careful with it. Otherwise, mineral spirits might also work but not nearly as fast.

In the US, antique dealers howl at grunge removal. But as long as it's gunk and not surface that's coming off, go ahead. I'm wondering if a good coating of olive oil might not get the job done.

Cheers, all options considered! The top is the worst, rosewood now black in colour and sticky to the touch with sticky goo between the carvings which I am presuming to be a mix of linseed oil and dirt.
