The book is by George Jackson. I think it's just a general old Christian book on character development. The book still shows up in Google as being available on Amazon but when you click it you get a "Sorry" message.

What was removed was a much later reprint listing for the book. I would think it had to do with the quality or legality of the reprinting, rather than the original content.

Hopefully that is the case but my copy is from 1901. It seemed different from the wording of the letter, had that "cancel culture" tone to it.

Anyone can create their own page for old books. That specific one was originally created for a 2009 reprint by Bibliobazaar apparently. Others of different dates/publishers could be listed using that details page. You could probably go make your own listing for the book if you wanted. It's been a long time since I listed things on Amazon so I dunno if anything has changed there.

I wish what you're saying was correct but when I go to add a listing for First Things First: Addresses to Young Men jackson all of them are now blanks and all inventories deleted. Been selling on Amazon for about 18 years.

All it takes is one person to complain.

I can readily imagine people finding things to complain about in 19th C sermons. One mention of "the white man's burden" or "the love that dare not speak its name" would be enough to do it.

Or maybe they were thinking of a different George Jackson.

Don't know that any of that is a valid reason for censorship but: their house, their rules.

You can also be sure that the decisions are being enforced through some computer algorithm, not by an actual person assessing the content.

It is a sad state we find ourselves in. It is long past time for the DOJ to break up all of the mega corporations. Unfortunately, many of these same companies are in bed with .GOV providing information .GOV can't constitutionally accumulate themselves (but can buy) and providing services to .GOV, so, we end up with crony capitalism. It is why the wealthy continue to get much, much wealthier buying off both politicians and political parties (both sides of the isle).

The fact that in a society where free speech is supposed to be protected - which was meant for the speech we don't like; speaks volumes about who is really in charge. Frankly, a lot of the stuff that was censored by these information monopolies is turning out to have a lot more truth to the information than the "Fact Checkers" ever had.

It won't be long before books start getting burned and banned from publishing. Reminds me of a certain European country and that did not end well for anyone. Can't have all of us serfs learning just how corrupted our nation has become :(

Censorship. Amazon has gone the way of woke as have so many others, Disney included, etc. Disgusting!
You can still find the book on abebooks.com, but since Amazon/Mr. Bezos bought abebooks.com, there's a good chance Abebooks may end up censoring everything considered inappropriate or politically incorrect by the woke mob!

We have no way of knowing what provoked Amazon to "censor" this particular book, as their decisions are completely opaque. It could easily be some bot-driven glitch. They have also delisted books that have "pesticide" in the title (and other totally unrelated products) until you prove to them that you have been trained in pesticide use - or somehow convince them that your book is not a pesticide (although you could smack a bug with one, I suppose).

I believe it is a leap too far to blame some "woke" conspiracy. However, some genuine examples of banning books have lately come from Republican controlled legislatures.

If you want to see the content of this particular book, you can read it here:

It would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic that book banning has become such a hot button issue. The same people whining about "woke" bannings are strangely silent about the GOP introduced legislation in Texas banning some 400 books from the school system. Freedom of press so long as it matches my politics!!! Yuck.

I propose that the only thing taken to the village square for burning are book banners, not books themselves.

Books aimed at children are one thing. Deleting the ability for the public to get wholesome character building books is another.

Same argument used in 1930s Germany.

    Leave books alone.
