I really like this picture because of its colours and size. It almost looks like a negative photo effect. I would like to know more about it. But have difficulties reading the signature. Can somebody help?

French is more likely, given the style and the BNP Paribas connection.:)

Can somebody explain what the BNP Paribas connection is? When I clicked the link I didn't see what it was, except that the URL includes it.

    Thank you...

The painting Jivvy posted is part of the art collection of BNP Paribas, a French-Dutch bank.:)

Oh, I see. Thanks! Of course that doesn't really help to identify the artist, unless that bank has a certain collection policy that is publicly available...

In my experience art buyers for big companies don't shop around much. Many just look in local galleries.

Interestingly, they do have something about their collection. They have a foundation that does the art collecting. They used to focus in the areas of "modern European art," "American Abstract art," and "works from major Swiss artists." They seem to have recently added a focus to collect works by young Swiss artists.

Here is the statement I found, near the bottom of this page:
    http://www.bnpparibas.ch/en/bnp-paribas/foundation/

So if the link that Jivvy posted above was a sale of one of the works from their collection, perhaps they deaccessioned it? In this case, they are listed as a Gallery on that site and there are some works of art there. The site provides a venue for galleries to sell art. Here is the BNP Paribas page there:

every bank is doing exhibitions of local unknown artists in the counter hall in France. goes from kindergarten sketches - future customers !!! - to village artists. seems to be a marketing thingy.
normal price-range is around 200 to 800 €. this one here is quite high quality. obviously they try it in Switzerland as well, although I doubt they rise much interest there, because there are more than enough public state galleries with the real stuff. and frankly, the Swiss don't go the bank to look at some "paintings" - that wouldn't win more than a hearty yawn at best.
