Alsatian Wolf Dog brass trinket dish or ashtray? How old?

Hello there! I can't another exactly the same so hoping you can help with this small dish. It measures 2.7"L x 2"W, marked "England" on the back. Is it an ashtray? It doesn't have the little indentation to hold a cigarette. It seems a little small for a catch all. Do you think it has any age and likely more mid-century? Thanks for any info

 

It looks like the type of little ashtray that would be part of a set used on a bridge table. Mid-century I'd think. Ah... The name "Alsatian Wolf Dog" didn't exist until post World War I so can't be old, old.
