So I pick this up today for a dollar so if it turns out to be nothing it's no big deal but I thought It was pretty cool almost coin like. It's 37.5 inches long so I'm guessing it's a belt and the metal color in person resembles bronze, if I'm wrong I apologise I'm advance. All in all I like it so no loss but wanted to see what you guys thought this was, maybe age, and if I'm really lucky the company or person that made it...

I wonder if that buckle being in the sheild shape means anything?

I'm having visions of a hippie girl, 19, named Lois, in jeans and T-shirt with peace symbol, bra-less, waist-length blond hair tamed a bit by a red cloth scarf tied around forehead, June 7, 1970, in Haight-A. She was wearing this particular belt.

If you change that to 1969 and brown hair, it could have been me with a different belt. LOL. I lived on Steiner Street. Then I came back to Boston, cut my hair and had another child. Ah, well. The hippie life didn't last.

The elements are interesting. The eagle has a fish (?) in it's claw. The sun is surrounded by clouds. The faces are interesting. The Queen of some country? It almost looks like it was one-of-a-kind with all that wrapped wire.

Bev love the pic! That reminds me of a pic my mom had of us together except I had the bell bottoms on, lol. Honestly I was really hoping to pin this to a maker but if it us just a ooak I still like it. I am seeing a little asian influence in the eagle buckle plus the primitive "queen" do you think maybe British occupied China?

Geez - I thought that was a guy. With that very long nose and sneering upper lip. Now I see the "tiara."

I remember those hip belts well from the late 1960s/early 1970s. They were bright, shiny metal or plastic and usually in geometric patterns. (Of course, hippie versions were macrame or leather.) Yours certainly looks older. What is the length?

This is described as a "Victorian skirt lifter." Note similarities with belt's plaque.

As with many things that women have been subjected to over our history, you probably don't want to know. Something uncomfortable, inconvenient and confining no doubt.
