Featured Alberto Giacometti

This is my painting signed Alberto Giacometti . Wooden panel and bought online in the Netherlands years ago .

But contact the MOMA in San Francisco and only message back that is was been on display there . Nothing about false or fake .

But any ideas in the forum maybe how to determine real or fake (most likely ) and the seller has been waiting for somebody like me ?

The painting has been only seen online and not been out off the house . So no expert has touched it by hand as yet .

It's going to be near impossible without solid provenance.

 

Yes, unfortunately provenance is going to be an issue...It is a long shot, but maybe you could consider to contact the "Fake or Fortune?" BBC documentary guys .If they think it is worth looking into, they may help you in the provenance researches also with the necessary expert and high tech analysis. Ofcourse that means agreeing to be part of an episode...

My amateur opinion is it's not.Giacometti's drawing & paintings have the feeling of single-wire sculpture.He builds up the image in a series of interwoven gestural lines-like the steel beams in a skyscraper.
This piece has no underlying structure,see below.
PS-I'm certainly no expert.

Giacometti is one of the most faked artists out there, but then there seem to be thousands of "most faked artists" out there.

What is that red seal on the back?

Gerspee-Is this a seal of some kind/is there writing on it ?

 

It is wax but cant see anything written on it . So real seal or to help looking it the to be the real thing no clue .

 

This could be a job for our super foto-sleuth @Aquitaine, hold fast Gerp-help is on the way !

 

The label on the back, indicating it is in the MOMA SF, says to me it is a reproduction of some sort.
