Alabaster elephant carved and painted - what is this?

    Looking for any info on this elephant I picked up. I saw one similar in the internet that described it as a mid 20th c alabaster elephant.

    Probably correct -- I think it's a souvenir.

    Very nice, Jalal.
    It could be Burmese (Myanmar), they are specialised in gilded alabaster. I also think it is older, possibly antique.

    Great help from everyone! many thanks. So I guess the question is how to determine if Burmese or Indian and also the age.
