Hey y’all! Picked up this crock from a local antique shop in NC. Can anyone help with possible age/origin? It appears to have quite a bit of patina and wear. The blue mark on the side is the only makers mark. Thanks in advance!

What did the antique store know about it?

I think that blue mark is decoration, not a maker’s mark.

They didn’t have any info unfortunately. And yes, I think you’re right. In that case there is no makers mark

Not all crocks got marked . For example red wing filled the kiln and then impressed their mark on only the outside row that they could reach. Unmarked red wing is more rare and commands a higher price. The majority of the older crocks I have and ones have sold are unmarked . Just like early cast iron was not marked.

You don't mention the size. I'm wondering if that's a sloppy "2". Any chance it holds two of something? Two quarts, two gallons etc.
